Our Catholic Life at St. John's

At St. Johns’, we welcome and value everyone as individuals created by God, fostering a community that works, learns, prays, and plays together.

Mission and Spirituality

Our Mission Statement reflects our faith, which is enriched by daily prayers, collective worship, regular Masses, and liturgies. Jesus’ teaching to "love one another as I have loved you" is at the core of everything we do. We have a strong connection with our Parish and incorporate the teachings of Jesus into all assemblies and prayer services.

As a vibrant, multicultural, and multi-faith community, we embrace and respect individual differences, integrating care and respect into our ethos. Prayer and reflection are woven into daily school life, from classroom prayers to collective worship.

Liturgy and Collective Worship

Faith is central to our curriculum and school life, encouraging pupils to recognise and respond to all forms of liturgy with respect and reverence.

  • Liturgical Experiences: These take place in school, church, and the wider community, involving pupils, parents, staff, governors, and the parish.
  • Mass: Our Parish Priest celebrates school Masses. Each class plans and participates in these celebrations, including special Whole School Masses for feast days and significant occasions.
  • Daily Prayers: Prayers are said at the start and end of each day, as well as before and after meals, tailored to the children’s growing spirituality.

Assemblies

  • Monday Liturgy: Focused on the weekly theme, often linked to Sunday’s Gospel reading, children reflect on and respond to its message.
  • Wednesday Hymn Practice: Children engage in a variety of hymns and prayers.
  • Thursday-Whole School Mass or Class Mass:Our Parish Priest celebrates school Masses, where each class takes on the responsibility of planning and participating in these celebrations. Additionally, we come together for special Whole School Masses on feast days and other important occasions, fostering a sense of unity and shared faith within our community.
  • Friday Celebration Assembly: We gather to celebrate and recognise the children's achievements.

The Eucharist and prayer are central to the life of St. John's', ensuring that Jesus remains at the heart of our school community. Through these traditions, we nurture faith, respect, and love in all aspects of school life.
