SEN & Inclusion

What inclusion means to us

At St. John's Catholic Primary School we believe every child is equally valued, whatever their background. With children at the heart of everything we do, our aim is to provide a warm, inclusive environment where all can thrive.

We are committed to adapting our teaching and learning approaches to meet individual needs, helping every child make the best possible progress and reach their full potential. We work hard to identify and understand children’s needs as early as possible, putting in place the right support and interventions alongside Quality First Teaching. Children have access to a wide range of learning opportunities, including universal and targeted provision, and we also work closely with external agencies when their expertise is needed.

If you have concerns about your child’s progress, your first point of contact should always be their class teacher. Every school also has a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo)

Our SENDCo at St. John's Catholic Primary School is Jane Butcher

Ms Butcher holds the NASENCO qualification and is trained to identify and support children with special educational needs and make sure they get all the help they need to succeed and thrive.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms Butcher on 01295 263740 or by email SEND@st-johns-banbury.oxon.sch.uk

If your child has a medical condition requiring a health plan, please contact us using the details above so we can support both their learning and social development.

Independent and impartial advice is available through SENDIASS, whose website is: https://www.sendiass-oxfordshire.org.uk/

If you meet with Ms Butcher, you will agree on the best plan of action together. This may include gathering more information or involving other professionals. Once all information is in place, you will be invited to meet again with the class teacher and Ms Butcher to review progress, discuss any changes, and agree on a new review date.

Reviews help track your child’s progress and plan next steps.

For many children, SEN support will meet their needs effectively. However, if your child does not make the expected progress despite this support, Ms Butcher may talk with you about requesting an Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment.
