What is No Outsiders?

No Outsiders is a teaching approach created by Andrew Moffat MBE, who was shortlisted for the Global Teacher Prize in 2018–19. It is built around three core values:

• Respect for diversity through education in schools.

• Commitment to community cohesion through understanding and acceptance of difference.

• Promotion of dialogue to counter fear and hate in society.

The No Outsiders programme helps children understand the Equality Act (2010), which protects individuals from discrimination based on:

• Age

• Disability

• Gender reassignment

• Race

• Religion or belief

• Sex (gender)

At St John’s Catholic Primary School, we believe in fostering a school culture where every child, staff member, and member of our community feels welcome and included.

We believe it is essential that our children are equipped to identify and challenge inappropriate or discriminatory language and behaviour. This is part of preparing them for life in modern Britain, where they can confidently and respectfully interact with others, regardless of differences.

Through this, our children learn to:

• Understand and respect that everyone is different

• Celebrate differences in themselves and others

• Recognise that we are all equal, despite our differences

• Build positive relationships with others, regardless of background

• Embrace British Values, such as mutual respect and tolerance
