Year 6

Welcome to our Year 6 page!

Year 6 is an exciting and important year, full of new challenges and opportunities as children prepare for their transition to secondary school. On this page, you’ll find key information about routines, homework, PE, and how to get in touch with us.

St. Peter’s Class is taught by Miss Callan, who will be joined by Mrs Jefferies on Mondays and Tuesdays. They will work closely together to ensure the children feel supported, challenged, and able to make great progress throughout their final year at St. John’s.

PE

During Autumn Term 1, our PE days will be Monday and Tuesday and will be spent both indoors and outdoors, covering Badminton and Rugby. On these days, children should come to school in their PE kits. Please note that PE days may change each half-term - we will make sure we let you know of any changes.

Supporting Learning at Home

We really value your support at home. Encouraging your child to read every day, practise times tables, and check their homework helps to build good routines and confidence. Here are some recommended websites that can be accessed from home. These sites provide activities and games to make revision fun and engaging.

SATs Revision

There is a lot you can do to  prepare for the exams before the SATs in May. As well as completing any homework throughout the year, you can revise for your SATs. Revising little and often is much better than stressing yourself out with long, last minute revision sessions.

It’s important to make sure that you don’t place too much pressure on yourself. The more relaxed you are, the more you will remember and learn, which means you are more likely to perform better during SATs week.

Try to do a little bit of practice each week. You can complete tasks in your purchased CGP revision books or have a look at some of the resources and links below.

Contacting Year 6

If parents need to contact class teachers, this may be done via a phone message or email to the school office, who will notify teachers. Teachers will endeavour to respond to messages as quickly as possible, acknowledging receipt within 48 hours and giving a full response within 5 working days. Staff will also be able to communicate with parents at the school gate, classroom door (at the end of the day) and via telephone or email if an incident occurs during the day that parents need to be informed of.
