Year 1
Welcome to Year 1
We are delighted to welcome you to Year 1. The class will be taught by Miss Sykes, with support from Mrs Beech, who works alongside us in the classroom each day.
This term our topic is Childhood. The children will be developing their understanding of time and exploring a range of artefacts to discover what they can reveal about life in the past. In Art, they will be introduced to colour theory, while in Computing they will begin to explore the technology that is part of their everyday world. In Religious Education, we will be reflecting on and showing appreciation for the creation of the world. Science lessons will focus on the seasons, and in English the children will use Jill Murphy’s Whatever Next! as the basis for their reading and writing. In Mathematics, the emphasis will be on building confidence in counting within 100.
Physical Education will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays this term and will include both outdoor team-building activities and gymnastics. Homework will be set each Friday and should be completed by the following Thursday. This will consist of regular spelling, reading, and Numbots practice, with the occasional project linked to our wider curriculum.
