Love one another, as I have loved you.

Compassion; Courage; Perseverance; Respect and Trust.

A very warm welcome to St. John's Catholic Primary School

Having taught at St. John’s for a large proportion of my teaching career, I feel privileged to return as Headteacher, working with a wonderful team of staff and a supportive community as we embark on the next chapter of growth of the school.

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6

At St. John’s Catholic Primary School, we believe every child is a gift from God and nobody is left behind. We hold a shared determination for every child to be the best that they can be, both holistically and in academic excellence. We inspire every child to be an explorer, broaden their horizons and empower them to uncover a world of possibilities so that they can achieve their dreams.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela.

Our vision is rooted in the words of Jesus: “Love one another as I have loved you.” This guiding principle shapes every aspect of our school community, where love, respect, and compassion are at the heart of all we do. Our faith is at the heart of all we do. We actively promote the teachings of Christ through daily prayer, worship, acts of service, and a strong partnership with our parish and families. Through Religious Education, Catholic Social Teaching, and a lived-out commitment to justice and compassion, we empower our children to be witnesses of the Gospel in their words and actions.

We are committed to providing a nurturing, inclusive, and high-achieving environment where every child is known, valued, and encouraged to flourish — academically, socially, and spiritually. Through strong relationships and a culture of care, we help our pupils grow in confidence, character, and have a commitment to justice and compassion.

Children are nurtured and encouraged to use their God-given talents to become the person God has called them to be. These aims are strengthened by children understanding, following and living out the Gospel values and practices daily in the way they behave and treat all those they meet. As a Catholic school we have these values at the centre of our learning so that every individual is encouraged as a child of God to strive for excellence in all they do.

We are fully committed as staff to do our very best to ensure that the children in our care receive a first-class education through our innovative, broad, balanced and rich curriculum. A curriculum that inspires, motivates and challenges them. We aim to create happy memories through learning and experiences and equip our children to become life-long learners ready to leave school as confident and well-rounded individuals who make a positive contribution in the world today.

We can only achieve this through an effective partnership with parents and carers since you are undoubtedly your child’s first and most influential educator. Therefore, it is vital that we work together with the full realisation of every child’s individual talents and strengths. And, in this respect, we are blessed with very supportive parents. The school is part of the Parish of St. John’s, Banbury and the strong relationship between Parish and school adds to the caring and inclusive ethos.

St.John’s is part of the Pope Francis Multi-Academy Company. As part of this partnership, we work together to share good practice; staff expertise and to further strengthen the provision and new opportunities for our children.

Please contact the School Office to arrange a visit to our school, and experience for yourselves the warm and friendly ethos which underpins everything we do.
