Safeguarding

Safeguarding Statement

St John’s Catholic Primary School is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent and effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff. All safeguarding concerns are passed to the Designated Child Protection Officers in school.

Cause for Concern and Information Sharing

Staff are expected to report any cause for concern to the Designated or Deputy Lead. Sometimes, we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that concerns are discussed with the child/children’s parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would have a negative impact on the child’s welfare. Working alongside our existing safeguarding processes we use a system called CPOMS. This is an intuitive system to help with the management and recording of child protection, behavioural issues, special educational needs, domestic issues and much more. Using CPOMS, we can ensure that accurate electronic records are kept and all staff members concerned are fully aware, and can focus on teaching and providing support, instead of administration.

Every member of staff across school has an obligation to report any concerns which they may have. CPOMS allows them to record information in a central repository and have relevant people alerted immediately.

If you have concerns that a child may be in immediate danger call the police on 999 or MASH on 0345 050 7666

If you have concerns that someone needs emergency medical help call 999

If you have safeguarding concerns about a child or family, please do not hesitate to contact us on 01295 263740 and ask to speak to a member of the safeguarding team.

Working Together to Safeguard Children

Prevent Duty & Educating Against Hate

According to the Prevent Duty guidelines, schools have a responsibility to safeguard students from being drawn into terrorism. The media often highlights how extremism and radicalisation can impact young people, with hate-filled messages taking many forms. Extremists exploit these to recruit vulnerable individuals. The Educate Against Hate website (linked below) offers valuable resources to assist both parents and school staff in safeguarding children from such dangers.
