ABOUT OUR SCHOOL |

General Information St. John’s is a Voluntary-Aided Roman Catholic school providing a first class education for children from the age of 4 to 11. We have ten classes and 290 pupils. School starts at 9am and ends at 3:20pm. The school has “Early Years Unit” status, and so children can start full-time from the beginning of the school year in which they will be 5. For many children this provides two extra terms at the start of their school careers, and this has been shown to be very beneficial. In addition, the children in reception year are a cohesive group from the very start - all being “new” together - and less confident children draw great support from this. A new two-classroom block has recently been added and other internal changes have greatly enlarge two existing classrooms. The Roman Catholic faith is central to every aspect of school life, and this is most evident in the excellent standards of behaviour amongst the children and the wonderful relationships formed child to child, child to staff, and staff to staff. Another strength of the school is the high level of support received from parents - and the number of parents providing that support. There is a definite feeling of belonging among families with children at the school, and this results in a team spirit among staff and parents that is apparent even to the casual visitor. Ofsted inspected the school in February 2007 and their report highlighted the points above and many others. The Ofsted report is available for download HERE, and other school reports are available for download HERE. Better still, arrange to visit us and see for yourself. Directions
